Well ill play this one off of liveaquaria. You wont be able to keep anything in a 5g due to them requiring a 10g or more. Have you tried anything in a 5g? If not then your input is not needed. I didnt ask for help. I just simply posted my tank. You say a couple of trimma gobies but yet they also require a 10g. That would cause the fish to grow improperly and cause damage as mattyfelts says. Maybe you both should consult with each other and get both of your opinions together and post together. Please research the min requirements before telling me to add a fish to my tank. Its not like im adding a naso tang to a 40g. If neither of you are marine biologist then your input isnt needed.

Yes I have run a 5 and have personal experience with all of those fish, and IME all could thrive in a 5. And you say you want to go with LA yet they recommend 30 gallons for the 5" fish you just added. And shouldn't you research the min size requirements for your own fish? Clearly this isn't a practice you employ

Oh dear. I can kinda see where No Hope is coming from (wait wait). The forums do seem to have a lot of advise passed on from people who are clearly regurgitating info they read (I've been guilty of the myself from time to time. And it can be frustrating.

But

But I think No Hope has been well wide of the mark here and somewhat rude. If someone tells me they have experience of "those lights" or "that size tank with that fish" then I think that it is worth listening to. No one here wants anyone to fail.

No Hope... I'm running a 23L myself and I've been all over LiveAquaria trying to find something else to make it work, but ultimately there is little we can do fish wise with these size tanks. Chill out with people a little more. They are trying to help you.

I think you need to take liveaquarias recommendation on certain fish with a grain of salt. Gobies under 2" like the trimma, eviota and most of the clown gobies are mainly perchers so they tend to do fine in small tanks under 10 gallons. Anything more and you won't see them lol.
With the said a fish that reaches 3-5" should really have more room. I had 2 clowns in a 10 for a while and felt bad for them so I upgraded. If you have a plan for the fish when it gets to big stick to it. I'm not a fan of this but fine it's acceptable as long as it happens.

I'll just throw my opinion in to this mess too. lol

Not many fish for a 5g, to be honest. I ran a 4g with a single clown goby. They dont get more than an inch and a half, and mine was even smaller. The trimmas are awesome btw, I had one and they dont get over an inch so a couple of them would be neat. They perch alot, which is the type of fish you really should be looking at for this small of a tank. More mileage as far as fish. lol If that is a blue spotted goby you are gonna regret putting him in there, I have a purple spotted one that is close to six inches long! Mine might be larger than average but it's just for an example. Mine will also swim here and there but mostly hides in his hidey hole.

No one here want to see you fail, we would rather tell you the honest answers that we came into knowing from our own experiences so you dont waste the money or kill the fish/coral like we all did at one time or another.

If I had that tank I would go heavy on the inverts and coral. A fish tank doesnt always have to have a boatload of fish to be great.

Who said I was adding a boat load of fish? This is the only forum that has a problem with the way im going. You say your 6ib goby hides most of the time. If it hides it doesnt truely need swimming room. It hasnt came out of its hole so idk what it truly is. Every tank is different. What didnt work(lights) for any of you may work in my tank.

Tank looks really good I'm not writing this to bash you at all but these particular members that posted know their stuff! They are just trying to help you and the livestock. I text one of them literally on a daily basis lol. Don't take anything personally as bashing.

I understand but I have a good bit of knowledge myself. When it gets bigger or if it comes out where I can catch it I will go trade it in. Also the lights are doing pretty good.
