What to get started

ok I am looking into this tank

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...pc=1&N=0&Nty=1

or possible one a bit larger if eclipse makes one (do they?)

I know smaller tanks are a bit harder to maintain and keep in check, but I would like to give it an honest shot.

What all would be needed, and how much?

I would like a FOWLR tank prolly, with 2 clowns if possible, a small cleaning crew, and another smaller fish/nifty invert if possible (what are options here on stocking)

I have a friend that has been breeding an anemone that grows no larger than 3 inches in diameter in his 75 gallon, so I will prolly nab one of his.

So,
How much live rock, live sand,
do I need a skimmer, powerheads, and how many, anything else would be helpful as well. Thankyou very much

Jarred...tryin to make hte plunge into salt water.

Also, what does the maintnance schedule look like for a nano tank. Two buds with 75s only do water changes every few months and have perfect tanks, but I imagine that isnt going to happen with something this small so waht am I lookin at here?

Thanks again

Hey Jarred I`m going to move this to the nano tank section so all those with a small tank can help you. Good Luck

I am not real versed on the eclipse systems , with that said . 2 clowns would be pushing it in a tank that size and they may even fight to the death of one , so for a 3rd fish I would leave that out . As for the cleaning crew , I would go with a few small snails turbos nassirous (sp) , a few hermit , and a cleaner shrimp, adding these after the tank is cycled. Live sand you will want about 10lbs , and around 1- 1.5 lbs LR per gallon , there will be enough die off from the live rock to start your cycle . Once your test prove safe you can add the cleaning crew .
Ammonia will rise drop to 0
NitrIte will rise drop to 0
NitrAte will rise and drop you want this as low as possible
Spg we run ours @ 1.025
temp we run at 73*
PH 8.2-8.4
With regualar water changes of 15-20% weekly you should not need a skimmer , tho there are some nano skimmers now on the market ...1-2 power heads we use the mini jet 606's in our system ... these need to be covered for the saftey of an anenome so as to not have it get diced in the impellers .You may wish to look for a heater of some sort as well. Remove bio balls ceramic rings and bio wheels after cycling as this can cause a build of NirAtes .....I did not cycle ours with the bio balls rings or the wheel ..
Now on to the anenome , there is no guarantee that a clown will host it , you want an established aquarium before adding one because if they die it can nuke your tank..... They also need obscene ammounts of light that the eclipse systems do not offer with out modifications or to be spot fed , which can cause algea blooms from excess nutrients ....HTH

thankyou very much for the help. This tank is being put on hold as the gf at the time doesnt want a second tank, especially a salt water, in her appartment since she may have to move in a few months I will be doing this tank once she is in a more permanet location.
