So I heard that bio balls are bad and also the nano cube filters aren't the best? Any way to custom it without a makeshift Refugium in the back? I want Kenya tree, button polyps, Xenia, and maybe mushrooms. First tank please help :)

Hi. The bio balls can catch a lot of nutrients and it produces nitrates. You could use a nano skimmer, and a hang-on filter with mecanic filter like wadding, changing it every 3 or 4 days. You dont need more than this to keep perfect water levels on your reef.
