i'm starting a new reef tank. before i do get anything is there anything i need to know?

Well, yes, but that's far too open-ended of a question to get a response containing 'what you need to know'.

Start by reading Robert Fenner's The Conscientious Marine Aquarist. After that, you should be ready to start buying equipment.

Biggest thing: this is a slow, very patient, some what expensive hobby...so don't rush ANYTHING.

Before you decide to go SW, you should consider upgrading the FW tanks that you have listed in your profile. Your fish may be small now, but they grow fast, and I see alot of serious problems brewing for you down the road due to serious overcrowding.
