I was reading in the freshwater forum and they said that the activated carbon is only "activated" for 72 hours to a week and not to change it. I seem to be learning that in saltwater tanks, carbon in large amounts serves as a biological bed more than a chemical filtration tool. Does the activated carbon act the same way in saltwater tanks, ref the short term activation?

GAC is more chemical then biological filtration. It needs to be changed on a regualr basis or it can start leeching what it has taken out of the tank right back into it.

Wow, so carbon tubes with 15 lbs of carbon lasting for 5 years as a bio bacteria bed according to some people is probably a bad idea?
