I'm going to start using oceanic salt instead of instant ocean, and was wondering if there's any harm or anything i should know in doing so

I'm doing the same thing. oceanic supposedly has more calcium.
so i'm gonna do smaller water changes, like 5% a week, just so the change isn't so drastic.

as long as you keep same temp and salinity, and age it a day, it should be pretty easy on the system.

Instant Ocean seems to work well in our research tanks. One of the professors at the school where I work is using it to do nutrition and maturation studies.

take the changeover to oceanic slowly. My personal observation is that the
corals do notice the difference and may close up for a few days.

It might be interesting to reference the article I posted a few days ago on the compairson of salt mix's. Their are some significant differences in the two salts as far as trace element makeup.
