Does fine aragonite sand normally smell when it sits in water for a few days? I bought some calcium carbonate sand last summer and have had it bagged tightly in the garage, waiting for a micro reef tank I was going to setup. I wanted to see how bad it would cloud and about how long it would take to settle, so I put some in a small empty tank with freshwater for a couple of days. It finally settled, but the smell was terrible. No critters could have gotten to it as it has been tightly bagged up. Should I be using this sand or is time to buy some new stuff?
