I have had some limited luck keeping Astraea snails. Over the past 18 months or so I have purchased 5 and one by one I find them upside down struggling to get up right again. Then shortly after they seem to perish ( I wonder if they just give up).

Any way I wonder if they die because they get trapped upside down or if being upside down is a result of ill health or perhaps some of my tank parameters are off slightly causing the snails to loose equilibrium?

I've been down to one of them for about 10 months now and he seems to have been eating and doing great until this morning...found it on its back, just flipped it over.....hope it will be ok.

Any thought on this issue?

Post your tank parameters to be sure but this is typical behavior for Astraea snails. They do not have that great an ability to right themselves. If trapped upside down, they often die of starvation or fall prey to other animals in the tank.

Cheers
Steve
