I am setting up my 35 gallon QT and was wondering how much lighting I need. Can I use a standard 48" shoplight like the ones at home depot that cost like $10 or do I need a real light?

Room lighting is enough for a qt setting. Don't worry about it.
Just try and do a schedule similar to what you use for your main.

The room is dark so I will use a Normal florescent and have it come on the same time as my display tank. Thanks.

I actually have 24" cheap lighting that came with my 55gal. I think NO or room lighting is sufficient.
