Would a Marineland HOT Pro System Magnum Canister Filter and Bio-Wheel Pro 30 filter system work for my 29 gollon
or should I go a different route
I have a book that says canister w/undergravel or canister w/fluidized bed filter would be good for fish only but i'm not totally sure

i am thinking about getting live rock but haven't decided yet if that will make a difference

any input would be good

The HOT Magnum with the Pro 30 would work for a 29 FO tank. I think you may have some nitrate issues using this setup though. I would suggest using 45-60lbs of LR and a sandbed consisting of sugar sized sand about 4" deep. Inoculate the sand with some good live sand from an established reef tank if you can. Read the articles here about the Berlin system of filtration and do a search on DSB's as well. I would look into a skimmer too. The Aqua C Remora with a surface skimmer would be perfect for a tank this size.
