I'm using this in my hob filter in my 20 gallon tank. Seems to be working great. Water is crystal clear. In the instructions it says to place filter floss on top of the bag. I checked the floss today and it's looking kind of dirty. Should I take it out and clean/replace it ? Instructions on say replace when water flow slows down

With most floss it's a replace and not clean. It can get pretty dirty and that's its job. It's up to you to find the balance of looking at dirty floss vs cost.....

When it gets too dirty just rinse it off. Some people run them though the dish washer w/o soap with filter socks. I just make cost as low as possible and replace. Panty hose work great as filter socks, but no real replacement for filter floss. Floss or sponges is all there really are.
