Cleaning New Skimmers

I have read some wheres that you need put a new skimmer in a bucket of water with vinegar to clean the skimmer and I guess let it run as well...????

Does it matter if it is tap water or does it need to be rodi water?

How long does it need to be in there for?

It doesn't matter when you are only aiming to let the oils leftover from manufacturing off. With that said, you can also simply put it into your sump and let it break in on its own.
