Cycling-I was wondering if i could cycle with out a filter and how?

Im going to be putting together a bigger tank the thing is i only have one filter and i was wondering if i could cycle with out a filter and how? Gravel from the other tank in the new one?

U don't want the sponges in ur filters to become part of the biological process so yes u can. I did and all u want is ur sand and love rock to be ur bio filter
