decorator spider crab

Hey all any ideas on how a spider crab can keep having babies when she is the only one in the tank? We have seen her do this twice and its freaky to watch. All the babies are alive and swimming until the other fish see them then they are lunch. Any help would be great thanks. Sue
Thanks all for your help! And for putting up with me!!
