diatoms bloom?

I went to the zoo for a couple hours and I come back with this on the rock... is that diatom? I didn't notice anything yesterday.

also noticed these little bubble, maybe bubble algae? how do I remove them?





looks like this...

after further investigation, i hear emerald crabs will eat them, i have one right now.

yeah it may be bubble algae, or just air bubbles on the rock, if you're referring to the brown on the rock that looks like diatoms

emerald crabs may eat them. manual removal is the only way to get rid of bubble algae. pluck them as you see them, and be careful not to pop them. at certain stages of the bubbles' maturity, it has spores inside of it, so popping it can create more.
