Do I need extra shells for hermit crabs?

The extra shells are to help stop them from killing snails to get there shells. They will kill a snail to get the shell and find out it does not fit. Its worth the $3 for shells to help spare a few snails that cost more.

My LFS said that if you added calcium the shells will grow by themselves

I have seen crabs go back and forth between the same shell 10 times before deciding on one (even though they looked the same size to me!)

I've also see crabs kill snails and then not use the shell, mean little S.O.B,'s

Craft store is the way to go, they are much cheaper the anywhere else Ive seen them and you can get a large assortment in one bag.
