Dosing Phytoplankton

I purchased phytoplankton for my inverts and the instructions say to mix it in a half liter of water before dosing into the aquarium. I didn't think much about it, I just take some water from the aquarium, mix it up well and pour it back in. Should I actually be using a drip dosing system instead?

Drip dosing is always the better option. I use a syringe to dose my reef with chemicals. For my filter feeders, I use kent marine phytomax and marine snow. I would highly recommend purchasing either of these products.

I put 1 drop of the phytomax in my 5 gal auto top off system and then I dose every other day with marine snow over about a 30 min period

Thanks, what the heck is a 5-gal auto top-off system?
