Is is safe to use egg crate in water?

Or does it have some kind of toxins that aren't safe?

A lot of people use egg crate in their aquariums to even out rock weight in the bottom of the tank, or to make a divider in the tank.

They make a thin nylon netting that is thin and hard to see and works just as good.
