Egg crate or not?

I was in the hobby for many years. I got sick (cancer) and could not maintain my tanks, 75, 37, 29 and 15 gallon so I gave them away. I had a neighbor who helped place them in schools so I at least felt good about that. Since then, I have recovered fully and want to re-enter the hobby. I want to start out with a 14-15 or 29-30 gallon (complete kit) saltwater tank. What are the pros and cons of using Egg crate under a live sand bed with Live rock? Any/all advice would be appreciated.

I have it under my sandbed so the rocks don't move or settle. I like it.

The egg crate should help distribute weight from the rocks and remove direct contact points (rock on glass).

No downside IMO. It does help distribute the rock weight.
