i have an emperor power filter on my mini-reef. will the filter cartriges filter out invertebrate foods? will the carbon remove too many trace elements, or can i simply supplement trace elements when i have carbon in there?

Should not be an issue. You can always direct feed inverts with a turkey baster. As for trace elements you can add them, but as long as you do frequent pwc they are replenished as well.

you can also shut thr filter off for 20 minues or so when you feed the tank.

GAC can remove some trace elements from the water. However, the amount is not significant. Don't waste your money on reef suppliments, instead get in the habbit of doing regular PWCs. This will replenish any TE that have become depleted.

Some people are fond of removing the media in the filter and only using it for ciculation and emergency carbon use.
