Fox face turning black and white when light gos off

Hi I just got a fox face and whenever the light is off or he is under something shadowy he turns all black and white. Is this normal?

Totally normal behavior. Many fish do that. Some of the neatest markings on my Midas blenny appear when it perches in different spots at night.
