How do i frag polyps?

I have a nice cluster of yellows, that started from a fragged cluster on a oyster shell, that shell is still attatched to the rock, i want to remove it so the yellows can cover that empty area of the rock, when i try to move the shell, it feels like its attatched to the rock. I think some of them have grown attathing partially to the shell and the rock at the same time. How do I remove them without damaging the entire colony?

If the only thing that is keeping the shell attached to the rock is the polyps, then carefully cutting the "mat" area adjoining the two pieces with a sharp exacto blade would be the easiest. Just be sure you do not cut the actual polyp stocks and they should be fine.

Cheers
Steve
