I found a source for the "household fixture" using flourescent compacts.
The ones I originally found were out of stock until February. The ones I were able to locate are less than 6 inches long, 2 inches around, 6500k, wattage equivalent of 125, uses 25 watts. CRI 85. Bulbs have a 10000 hour life expectancy and cost 12.95 each. They call them a full spectrum/natural light bulb.

The way I see it, I can put 250 watts of 6500k lighting over my 30 gallon tank for about 40.00. That is over 8 watts per gallon for a very little amount of funds. I sure hope this works!

that would only be 50 watts hara. it would be equivellent to 250 incan, which isn't the wpg you're going for.

IMO watts/gal becomes moot when talking about PC lights. These things are so stinkin' bright for a given wattage the W/g rule of thumb doesn't hold water anymore. Go for what looks good. You want lots of intense light. I would start with two of these and go from there.
