Unfortanetly, most don't do well in captivity at all. They require a LOT of phytoplankton and LOTS of flow. Most of which can't be replicated in our tanks at home. However, there are encrusting gorgonians that do much better, but still need extra care (usually brighter lighting and occasional feedings) such as Briareum asbestinum, Eunicea sp., or Erythropodium sp. gorgonians. My advice is to not waste your money on a "fan" gorgonian.
