I read on the Internet that if you take a live rock, put it in a glass jar and put it in the windowsill, you can grow natural algae for your tangs. Anybody know if this true? I would rather not have algae all over my tank. But one rock would be OK.

Sounds like a good way to accidentally over seed your tank; but yeah it will work. On my tank, I have a Refugium set up. I grow red bone grass in it but I also get a lot of hair algae growth off of the light on the side of the fuge. I just scrape it away and feed the red bone grass. Macro algae like red bone grass is a better choice due to it being easy to control if it is t all consumed by your fish.
