any ideas on how to get rid of it, other than: w/c, emerald crabs, sally light foot crabs? also i have a uv sterilizer that i guess i need to slow the flow down on, any idea on how often the bulb needs to be cleaned ?
You can also try phosban reactor or Phosguard by Seachem. They help remove phosphate which algae use to thrive.
Another way is to plant some macro in ur tank. They'll help u with phosphate too but u gotta keep them in check or they will spread quickly if condition is right.
Good luck

also, use RO/DI water. It is phosphate free. Plus, it's mineral free so you won't have mineral deposits at the water line and all over your equipment. RO/DI units are cheap, 100 bucks on ebay. They are awesome. I have one i got off ebay last august and it works like a champ...well made too.
