Its an attachment for the fluval canniser filter... any opinions?

I used one once and they were more annoying then they were worh. Air bubbles would collect under the clear plastic thing and cause it to raise up to high. Ehiem makes a nicer one that you could probably make work

I want to make sure you are aware that its a surface skimmer, NOT a protein skimmer.
The difference between the two is huge.

i was wondering that myself seeing as im going to use a fluval 204, so a ehiem surface skimmer will work?
