Hi im new to reef keeping. I have a 450 litre aquarium and i want to know if i should buy a protein skimmer and if so what type. The guy at the fish shop said his tank didn't have one but he had a refugium though and i don't. Please help.

119gals would benefit from a good skimmer. Google Porotein skimmers and see what fits your tank and buget, then run them by us and came tell which ones we think are worth the money and time.

I agree that a skimmer would immensely help your tank. I`m going to move this to the SW side. More people will see it there. This forum is for welcomes. BTW welcome aboard.

If it's not to much trouble, do you have sump (or plan on getting one to go along w/ your skimmer)? What do you use for filtration now? What kin do if livestock do you have?

I'm not sure how to offer any advice without knowing some basics about your tank.

Look into CPR and Reef Octopus, they are great for the money.
