Hermit Cannibals?

I have about a dozen blue legged hermit crabs, and yesterday I saw blue legs on the sand. No shell, claw, or obviously dead crabs around. Do they molt like shrimp, or was this one killed? The tank is a reef setup with no aggressive fish. Any thoughts?

Most likely it was a molt. They look very realistic. Nothing to worry about.
