Hermit crab question

I know that you're supposed to put empty shells in the tank to give new homes to the hermit crabs.

But what happens if I forget? Will they not molt, molt but stick with the same shell, die, or something else?

While your thinking about it, go buy a handful of shell sizes and throw them in the tank, then you won't have to worry about it.

I got a bag full of about 30 of em from a LFS for FREE! When you ask for them, sound like you expect every store to give them for free. I asked the guy if he had any empty shells to GIVE me for free to throw in my tank for my hermits. He paused for a sec and gave me a nice handful
