I heard hippo tangs take a very long time to grow is that true?

Not sure about bht but my Yellow Tang has grown from 3” to 5” in the last 8 months.

I’d expect anywhere from 2”-4” per year on average until full maturity and would plan on a tank size of 60” long 18” wide as a minimum for housing an adult.

A smaller tank will not keep it from growing.

could a hippo tang and a yellow tang be housed together?

well i'm setting up a 180g upgrading from 55g i already have a yellow tang in the 55g, if they dont can you tell me what type of clowns can be housed together i know i want a couple of clowns in the new tank

I assume you are talking about putting the two together in your new 180 gal. I’ve seen them coexist in larger tanks personally with little issues. I know the purple tangs can be pretty aggressive towards other tangs but bht & yt tend to be less.

Worth a shot if putting in the 180 due to the room to avoid each other and claim their own spots. Worst case is you would have to remove one down the road.
