How bad is chemical warfare?

Well out of know where while im watching tv, I see a decent size avalanche. So I rinse my hands off and dig right in. Well after a good 20 minute re-aquascape, I find all of my corals and featherdusters oozing all kinds of stringy stuff. Some stuff floating in the column, while other stuff is attaching itself to neighboring corals. As of right now, I tried to suck some of the stuff out with a turkey baster, but it is pretty endless. I know that this is due to stress, but can this be really bad for the tank?

Sounds like the corals are slimming. Remove what you can manually, turning off the pumps if necessary. Otherwise it tends to get stuck on neighboring corals and it irritates them. Running some GAC if you have it handy would be a good idea as well.
