I am over Tanked

The friendliest place on the web for anyone with an interest in aquariums or fish keeping!

As another mentioned AmericanChoppers bikes are NOT built to be driven. Their pretty pieces of eye candy designed to be looked at but not sat on. And yet they made their money thru the show, not thru their bikes.
Tanked makes their aquariums to impress the tv audience and sell their advertising and sponsers stuff. Sure, they probably 'could' build a real aquarium system but that's not what they're about. It's all about entertainment and smoke and mirrors to the uninformed.

When I had my LFS, there were folks that were serious about the hobby and some who saw aquariums and fish, as part of a selection of interior designer elements. Theme tanks are nice, but the owners that don't take it seriously as a living thing, end up loosing their investment. And some truly beautiful fish die.

I wish they would atleast do one episode about the actual set up of the tanks, the work, and the actual time that goes into it.
They've made enough episodes that they wouldn't lose any money or viewers due to an informative episode.

I laugh every time I watch the show and I see them with the coralife items, or the petco items.
They've shown several scenes with a petco banner in the back.

I did.
I forgot about that one for a second!

Still seems like like they need to toss in an ehiem banner or something lol.

When I watch I have to try to shut off my "reefer" brain cuz what they build and what they stock their tanks with frustrates me. I try to just watch to see the beautiful livestock they have access to and their expert craftsmanship in acrylic. Unfortunately more often than not though its hard to overlook the irresponsible tank stocking or the disaster to be custom novelty build. I try to tell myself the people that pay for their very extravagant services must somehow come to appreciate the animals they have come to be responsible for and hope they begin to learn the husbandry needed for their care. I also want to believe the ATM guys have some sort of maintenance or maintenance referral service that helps these people care for these animals after they have been given an impractical tank that was improperly stocked.

Anyone see the tattoo tank- 50 gallons of strangely shaped tank half filled with sand and the stock included mandarins, small blennies and gobies, and several other fish. Urgh.

i have watched both shows and out of the 2 fish tank kings is the better they have talked about cycling and quarantining the fish but on one episode the tried to talk there customer out of a real coral tank, after they did that i wouldn't have used them

I agree with "reality tv" is horrible for the most part. You can pretty much assume every consultation is going to consist of Brett recommending something and wade standing there in disbelief shaking his head. There tanks are insanely nice but I agree I would hate to be the one doing maintenance on a tank when the "fog machines" or "integrated expresso machines" stop working. I also think they shouldn't teach new aquarist that a dozen fish (2 being Balas) is NOT recommended in a 10gal that they built in one of the episodes.

Just watched the Dunkin Dognut tank in Riviera Beach Florida. Filled it full of fish that I can't believe would be still alive. Anyone seen this tank in person?

I think someone started another thread about the show and someone posted about seeing that tank.. Erm.. Seeing dead fish being removed from the tank.. Ill see if I can find it

These guys suck!
I thought that before dying, I would like for them to make me a custom tank, but not anymore!

people from atm come into the LFS where I work all the time they are really retarded...I saw the kiss tank for kiss mini golf the tank looks terrible

Just put of curiosity, why are they there? I thought they also had a retail location.

They do but they have very little and their prices are super inflated. Their reef specialist came in the other day and was asking me questions lol he didnt seem to know alot. They are all very cheap too it pisses me off always thinking they deserve a deal just cause they work for atm

I have never seen them build a real reef on the show. In fact the other show Fish Tank Kings only did one and made a big deal about it. Both companies push their fake coral.

What we need is a couple of nuts that are good on camera AND know what they are doing. Just go house to house like "Cribs" and I bet you could go a long time before you ran out of stories.
