Kalk drip...advice please..and lime advice for north/midwest

So, when I do get my corals and/or clams, I'm going to set up a kalk drip. I'll keep it in, probably, a rubbermaid container (small one) above the sump. I will probably have tubing run out of it about 1.5-2" above the bottom (to prevent precipitate from going into my tank). I'll have a float valve in the sump, so all top-off water will be kalk. (This of course when I have heavy consumption of Ca) Anyways, my main question is this:
Can I have the drip setup all day, every day? Or should it only be allowed to drip/refill at night?

My second question:
Does anyone out there know of a major grocery store/supermarket/whatever that sells pickling lime for use as kalk? I didn't find it at Meijer...and I don't quite know where to look. I'm in Detroit, so any midwestern or northern chains that have it will work...or a place I can order it online for not a lot. Thanks!

For auto top off, it is recommended to do it 24/7.

If you don't find it locally....
