Lights or no Lights?

Just wondering if I should leave my lights on constant or turn them off?
Have a Caulerpa sertularioides that goes white when I do switch the lights off overnight but then re-greens within a couple of hours of the lights going on again each morning. Is this doing any damage to the plant? BTW my long spined urchin just loves munching on it. :?

what kind of lights? what size tank do u have? what kind of corals and inverts do you have? If you just have a 50/50 actinic and full spectrum its suggested you do 10 hours of lights on. But it really depends on how strong your lights are and the size of your tank and whats in it.
