Live rock

I just bought 50 lbs of LR from a person who let there reef tank die off. The rock has been out of water for 2 months. How do I clean the rock so that I can be used as base rock for my established tank? And... can I use the larg pieces of dead coral for live rock as well?

Regards,
Jason

Just clean it up good and it will be ready for the tank, may want to buy a few pieces of lr to help seed the old dead rock and I would say yes you can use the skelotons for rock

It should work out fine. The LR in your established tank should be enough to seed the new rock

I recall some discussion of baking off the dead stuff in an oven. I do NOT recall the details, so I suggest searching the boards for it before you try it.

Ok....So I wonder what I should use to clean it!!! RO/DI water, tank water or tap water. It's dead anyway right?

Although it may be a good process? I don't think I want to start a war with my wife by placing a bunch of dead, fishy rocks in her oven.....LOL

Regards,
Jason

I'd get a bucket of tap water and a toothbrush. then rinse them off with tap, and let them dry.
