LR touching the glass

Just wondering about maximizing the space in a tank and allowing the LR to rest against the glass. Anybody have thoughts or ideas about this? Is there an unspoken rule about it? Is it cheating?

I have it resting on my back glass. Does 2 things; keeps fish from hiding there throughout the day and gives more room out front.
I have enough openings for fish to sleep back there or hide if startled, but they don't hang out behind. No issues with flow and detritus build up back there either.

I have mine on the back glass. It forces the fish to swim out front.
