okay, on ebay are some meal halide 175 pendants with ballasts, but ar eunder the "grow lights" whats the difference between the ones we use and the grow light version?

209 is the price at drs foster and smith's site. just want to make sure that its the same thing.

thanks

Grow lights are usually for growing plants and have the wrong spectrum bulb. What type of pendant are they? If they ar the bell pendants i would stay away from them since they do not transmit alot of light into the tank due to the vertrical bulb position.

Yep you can get your own bulb. If you do not run actinics get a 14K or 20K bulb to add more blue to the tank.

so does anyone have information on the amount of light part mentioned above?

sidewys bulb alignment verses a bell style pendant?

any thoughts on the mount of effective light you would get from a bell style pendant versus the same wattage but in a horizontal configuration?

Most MH bulbs are designed for horizontial placement not vertical. Not sure how this affects PAR but seeing them in action the bell pendents do look noticeably dimmer then a horizontial pendant.
