What is the difference between the metal halides that you can buy in Lowes and the metal halides that they sell at the LFS?

The kelvin rating. Saltwater needs a kelvin rating of 10,000k to 20,000k on average depending on preference. I have actually looked into the fixtures at lowes and various electrical stores. I believe that the ballasts and sockets would work as a retrofit, but you would still have to buy the bulbs from a specialty bulb place that sells to sw people. I went to dealers electric and their setups would be just as expensive as if I had gone to the lfs. I ended up buying from the lfs, but I got them to buy the individual pieces and got it all for 350. 2 ea ballast, sockets, reflectors, and bulbs, 10,000k. If you diy you can save a lot of money.
