Montipora dying or growing?

I have a montipora cap that has grown from a half dollar size to what it is today however i have noticed that the majority is a lighter red than usual but the edges continue to show signs of growth. Im unsure rather or not the middle of the monti is starting to die. See picture

White on the edges like that is growth

The white in the middle of mine is sand that got kicked up by whatever and around the edges is new growth.
