my Fridmani...

used to swim around all the time then i added some live sand and it dug out a hold under one of the rocks in the front of the tank. im just wondering if its normal because ive never seen them do it before in my tank or at my work.

It is possible the addition of the sand my have scared him, or just given him a better place to hide. I would wait and see if he comes out more, as he gets used to his "newer" surroundings.
Did you have sand in there before?

One of my yellow tail damsels just started doing the same thing. Maybe he's more comfortable now.
