I have a U tube and it never looses siphon, I turn the pump off at least once or twice a month to clean stuff, the water level in either side of the overflow never drops low enough for it to loose siphon no matter how low the tank water is, they are just designed that way. Besides that if it does loose siphon because of me cleaning the overflow, it takes 10 sec. to create the siphon with an air tube. So I don't know what the fuss is all about. Pick which ever you would feel more comfortable with, and what your comfortable with spending.
