pineapple sponges

I've noticed a mass quantity of pineapple sponges sprouting up all over my tank. I know people say its a sign of good water quality and such, but are they something that will stick around in the tank for a while or are they something that will come and go?

They will die off.. I had a bunch in my tank a few months ago but now it's hard for me to find one.
