Play sand??

Im getting ready to set up a 90 gal saltwater fish only w/ LR. Can I use the play sand that you can buy from HD for my bed? Build it up 3-4 inchs.
Would I have any problems w/ this at all?

The answer is yes. Check out the thread below. It gives lots of specific info on brands and types as well as ways to test it. You will want a tropical playsand.

Well i had planned on using this sand, but i went to two different LFS and they both told me NOT to use it..They said it would basicly become mud and the stuff is very messy...They also said that you would have to vacume it out alot more and it would cloug the pumps. Soooooo im not sure what do to do.

most of the playsand a aquarium sand is taken from the same locations. It even says on the bags of playsand "not for aquarium use" This is legal mumbo jumbo. The sand is the same. just about $6 for 50lbs instaed of $25 for 20 lbs at the LFS.

read the thraed above(Iknow its a bit long) and you will see several brands listed as OK. Southdown is common around here.
