Power Heads

I'm looking to put water movement into my new setup 75gal but do not like the idea of having power heads in my Aquarium is there any other sort of technical piece of equipment I can use to do this job rather then a black box stuck on the inside of my tank.

You could do a closed loop. Using an external pump, you plumb it to take water from the tank and return back to the tank, via any number of returns, there would be nothing in-between, just a loop (hence the closed loop). I am considering one for my 20L.

Could i use a canister filter and remove the media?

That's an excellent idea. It is very effective. Another way is to use a whisper type power filter that hangs on the back without the media.
