Red Slime?

My tank has red slime and I am treating it, but would like to know what it is and what it does? Heard it is a algae and how do you get it? Thanks much

it is an algae and it comes from a few different things. could be lack of flow or oxygen also it could be from excess of nutrients. do a search on AA to find out a little more about it

Its called Cyano Bactiria. I have it too. I just scooped a bunch of it out of my tank today. It seems like everyone is having an outbreak of it right now. Must be the allignment of the stars
