compact fluorescent is a type of bulb.

a retrofit kit is a set of lights that generally does not include a housing. you can get incandescent, NO fluorescent, VHO fluorescent, compact fluorescent, or metal halide bulbs in a retrofit kit. depending on the actual kit, it may include the wiring, endcaps, bulbs, reflectors, switches, and balasts.
