I have the Filter Direct unit. Besides having to buy a faucet adapter for it, it's worked very good!

Wow, that Filter Direct looks like a great deal if it works well.
I may have to stop buying my water at the LFS soon...

RODI - Which one do you have?
I bought this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/New-6-stage-100-...QQcmdZViewItem
Lots of folks have recommended it. I don't have it hooked up yet.
Make sure you get the one that comes with the extra, free filters....

Nope, works just fine. I have only used mine a few times though, but know of numerous other people who have the same unit with no issues. What issues would there be with a horizontal DI?

Are there better units available for slightly more price or is this one really good?

Personally, I don't know, I haven't hooked it up. LOL! A lot of folks, from this site recommend it.
+++EDIT+++
That specific RO/ DI has a reserve tank, for just the RO, for drinking, so that it doesn't waste the extra DI water...I believe.

I got mine from Aquasafe Canada but I don't know if they sell on ebay anymore? BTW, my DI cartridge is horizontal and has worked fine for years.

Regarding horizontal versus vertical...
What I've *heard* said - but have no experience with - is that horizontal units can have channeling issues. Water may form a channel and not actually come in contact with much of the resin. I would speculate that it probably depends more on the quality of the packing of the resin more than it's orientation though.

they are a semi-local company for me out of Duluth, MN. The LFS by me carries their products and I have been very happy with them. It is far better them my Kent Maxima I had before.

Another thumbs up for thefilterguys.biz
I've purchased some DI stuff from them and had some questions before I bought. Lightning fast email responses to my questions and just plain nice people, it seems.

Correct. Plus, horizontal DI cartridges are usually substantially smaller than vertically mounted units.
I am a big fan of SpectraPure. Other than them, I would trust AirWaterIce.
