Sand Question

In my main tank i have 1 1/2 pounds of LS. Their is a brown/red thin layer of sand on the top.
I am wondering what this is and how do i get rid of it.

you gotta come a bit more specific than that, you have how bing a tank with how much sand total? I'd say you need to of the nasso snails or a sand sifting star to clean that up for ya
