Sea urchin question

Hi, I have a question about my sea urchin. The other day I saw it sitting on a rock with a pointy cone-shaped spike in the middle, and it looked like it was excreting these small white dots out of the point and onto the rock. Does anyone have any idea what it was doing? Laying eggs perhaps?

Maybe so, but would it have been excreting poop or something else that's white perhaps??
